Week 4
For the positioning slides, I focused on the applications and also started by writing a bit of the content. Ms Lillian said that the applications were okay and also reminded me of the stationery that was compulsory such as the letterhead, name card and envelope. She also gave me some suggestions on how to further improve my content to fit the brand values.
Week 5
This week, I was told that my creative brief was too safe as it was a Malaysian brand that embraces our culture and also the way we speak. She said that I should include the Malaysian slang into my creative brief which can become the brand's voice and also further increase the strength of the brand identity.
Week 6
General feedback: The creative brief and also the visuals should have consistency as it portrays the brand identity and allows the consumer to recognise the brand despite the different application.
Specific feedback: For my creative brief, I was too safe again and needed to push the boundaries more and include more of our Malaysian slang and the way we talk to show the brand's friendliness. On the other hand, the stationery and applications was good, however the visuals should come first before the applications so that people would have a better concept of how the applications and stationeries would look like.
REFLECTION
Experience
This project was interesting as I was able to make the brand come to live and plan out the brand values. It was fun to find the visuals especially the illustration aspect for the brand however there were times when it was frustrating as I was not able to find interiors, exteriors or visuals that would completely suit the brand as it was a different approach to a brand. I also struggled with the creative brief as I was always trying to play it safe as I was afraid that what I did would have been wrong. Though it took quite a while grasp and understand how to further strengthen my brand, at the end I was able to properly communicate it.
Observation
I observe that I was playing it safe with my creative brief and since I was doing something that was very different from my classmates, it became quite a challenge. There were definitely times when I wish that I did something easier but at the same time I was happy that I did something different as a designer myself, I found my style which was catered towards a more illustrative and fun side which took time to be okay with as it was different from what everyone was doing. However as time went on, I found myself slowly making braver choices.
Findings
Through this project, I started to understand how important consistency is in a brand as it helps to create familiarity so that consumers are able to recognise the brand despite the difference t application. I found that creating a brand is not as easy as it sounds as everything needs to reflect the brand values which gave me a new found appreciation for brands.
