LECTURE NOTES

01/04/19 (Week 1)
Briefing

The first day of class, we were briefed on what we will be working on this semester and was also given the MIB. Mr Vinod showed us some of our seniors work to have a better idea on what we will be doing. We were also told to prepare some supplies for an exercise we will be carrying out in the next class.

15/04/19 (Week 3)
Lecture 2: History of Print

In today's lecture, we learned about the history of print which was quite interesting and also enlightening as we learned the history of print for different countries.

INSTRUCTIONS

Week 1 (01/04/2019)

Today we were briefed on the first project which was to come up with a content which contains 3000 words based on any topic of our choice. We are also allowed to use other writer's content but with citation. In the content, we are required to have three chapters minimum, subtexts and also identify 16 areas in the written text for visualisation.

I went back home and started to write the content for this project. Here is the first draft.

Week 2 (08/04/19)

I showed Mr Vinod the 3000 words that I've written and received feedback on adding the pull quote and subtext in the introduction and also to finish identifying the 16 sections. After some making some adjustments according to the feedback, here is the final content.

We were also told to find some visual reference and attempt on it.

Visual Research

Here are some of the references that I've found and compiled together.

FEEDBACK

Week 2

General feedback: The height and width of the book should be bigger than A5 size. When cutting the paper, you should apply less pressure onto the blade.
Specific feedback: Mr Vinod told me to add on a subtext and pull quote to my introduction and also to finish identifying the 16 sections for visualisation.

Week 3
General feedback: When taking a picture of your work, you should zoom in so that the paper does not look distorted.
Specific feedback: Mr Vinod advised me to get the major elements done first before looking into the details. The illustrations look paper like almost like a collage and also they look sound.

Week 4
Specific feedback: Mr Vinod told me that my illustrations were good and I can try to make more and combine them together to make it more tight rather than loose.

Week 5
General feedback: We were told to update our blog.
Specific feedback: I received feedback from Mr Vinod that my illustrations are good . As for the exercise, I was told that when introducing a new shape I could leave a space before that and also said that when using colours to highlight, its alright to have some surprises.

REFLECTION

Experience
Week 1;This week, I started to write the content but I found it quite hard to reach 3000 words but luckily in the end I was able to. Week 2; This week I started to find some visual reference and made an attempt on my visuals for the content. Week 3; This week I continued to sketch for the 16 sections and my pull quote, I also illustrated them. Week 4; I found that making my visuals took a very long time. Week 5; I experience having a hard time figuring out how to make my illustrations better and how to lay them out on the page.

Observation
Week 1; I observe that it's better to write with and outline as it guides you when writing your content. Week 2; I observe visualising certain words were quite hard. Week 3; I observe that after looking at my illustration after a few days, I was able to find places that needed some tweaking or be improved. Week 4; I observe that as I continued to illustrate, the process got a lot faster. Week 5; I observe that it was hard to lay down my illustrations in a page.

Findings
Week 1; I found it hard to juggle between all the subjects this semester as they're quite heavy. Week 2; I found it quite hard to illustrate as I'm still not exactly sure what visual I would like to achieve.
Week 3; I found that illustrating each visual was very time consuming. Week 4; I found it quite fun to do the visuals as I was able to illustrate. Week 5; I found myself dissatisfied with my illustration and that it could have been better.
