LECTURE NOTES
25/09/18 (Week 5)

This week, Ms Hayati briefed us about critical review which is our second project (research), we are required to select 10 - 12 journal articles that are relevant to our topic and critically review them. She also mentioned that a critical review is when we analyse and evaluate an article with understanding. This includes looking into the strengths and weaknesses of the article. While doing this, we should look at the title of the article, then read the synopsis and lastly the conclusion as we have a lot of articles to read through and this is one of the most efficient ways. 




02/10/18 (Week 6)

Ms Jinchi uploaded some documents on TIMES to guide us for this project. After reading them, I understood better on how we were suppose to write the reviews.

25/09/18 (Week 5)

For this week, we were required to find 10 - 12 journal articles that were relevant to our chosen topic. We were also told to try and have a first draft of the critical review. I tried to list down the strengths, weaknesses and purpose of some of the journal articles that I've found.

02/10/18 (Week 6)

FEEDBACK: I got a better understanding after Ms Jinchi told us what we had to do for the critical review and also provided us some documents that would aid in writing the reviews. She also told us that we should use research papers to review for this project and also thought us how to identify a research paper. As for specific feedback, she told me that I should try to think of ways to branch out when finding the research papers such as using other words that still relate to the topic I have chosen.

Once I gathered all 10 articles, I started reading through the research papers and did each critical review.While doing this, I noticed that I got confused between the different types of evidence and reasonings therefore I decided to ask about it in the next class. Nonetheless, I still started with writing the critical reviews as I didn't want to rush it all at the last minute. For my essay structure, instead of separating the summary and critical review into different paragraphs, I decided to evaluate the points as I go while summarising about the paper. To my surprise I actually managed to finish all 10 of the essays, but of course I knew I still had to make changes to it (especially the reasonings and evidence part) and maybe add in more of the evaluation after I get to consult with Ms Jinchi, so I can further improve on what I've done.
09/10/18 (Week 7)

FEEDBACK: In this class, I got to have a one-to-one consultation with Ms Jinchi on the critical reviews I've done and clear up the confusion I had. I managed to show her one of the critical review that I've written. She gave me suggestions on how to further improve the review and also suggested things that I can add on or change. She also helped cleared up some confusion I had on the content and explained throughly on the questions I asked her.

With the feedback received, I used it as a guide to further improve the reviews that I have written and also implement them into the new ones that I'm writing.
