Project 2

08/10/18 (Week 7)

This week my group was up for presenting the next topic which was Type Design Methodology. Here is my group's presentation.

INSTRUCTIONS

08/10/18 (Week 7)

This week, we were introduced to our second project which is connected to the first project . Using the key artwork made in project 1 , we needed to apply it to 3 different mediums which  are a poster, an e-invite and anything of our choice. This was my key artwork from project 1.

#1 - POSTER

The first part of the project was to create a poster with the key artwork we've made previously in A3 format.  The width can be adjusted, but the height needs to be maintained. The poster should also have a visual consistency and typographic systems can be applied(we can use more than one). We were encouraged to create grids for better alignment of elements. As for the content, we could use the information given for our first exercise, as well as include a short description about the term typosexual which is optional.

Mr Vinod mentioned that the text should be placed in a way that matches the flow of the artwork, and not just create a poster layout and place the artwork in it at the end. I started to draft and experiment with ways I could place the texts with the key artwork in Illustrator. Here are my attempts.

15/10/18 (Week 8)

After receiving feedback from Mr Vinod and Mr Shamsul, I made some changes and tweaked the design. These were the two designs that I made some changes to.

After tweaking it, I went to ask for feedback again and Mr Vinod told me to adjust the alignment and print it out for him to comment. The print out turned out different from what I saw on screen whereby  some of the text were too big to a point where it overpowered the key artwork. Mr Vinod then told me to increase the size of the key artwork and make the font size for the content smaller.

After that, I tried out some colours.

In the end I went with the black and white version as the final as using colours made the poster look messy.

#2 TOTE BAG

For the second item, we were given the freedom to choose whatever medium that we preferred. Here's the list of my ideas.

Item Ideas
- Tote bag
- Notebook
- Phone cover
- Button badge

Here are the drafts for the tote bag design. I kept the design minimal.

After designing the tote bags, I decided to try the other mediums that I have listed down.

After doing all that, I personally liked both the notebook and tote bag design.

22/10/18 (Week 9)

This week, I showed Mr Vinod and Mr Shamsul my designs and they gave me feedback on how to improve the design of the tote bag. Here's the design of the tote bag after changing it.

I went to ask Mr Vinod for feedback again and he told me to add the human inside so here's the final outcome.

#3 MICROSITE

As for the third medium which was a microsite which needs a call to action which can either be to rsvp, buy the merchandise or both. This was my first attempt and also the sketches and  elements used.

I was not satisfied with the outcome so I decided to make some slight changes to the design of the microsite. Here is the outcome.

I received feedback from Mr Shamsul to add logo, increase the margin for the about section and insert a caption below the merchandise. After making those changes, here's the final outcome.

We were told by Mr Shamsul to upload our file unto a web server which was 000webhost. Here's the link to the site.

FEEDBACK

Week 8
General feedback: Mr Vinod told us when we are creating the poster, we are not limited to using just one typographic system but we can mix and match a few together. Specific feedback: Mr Vinod told me that I shouldn’t make the date the main point of the poster and instead change it to suit the title of the exhibition. He also told me that I should try to play with the text more.

Week 9
General feedback: The second medium design should be a variation that looks different but yet the consumer can tell that it relates to the poster.

Specific feedback: Mr Vinod told me to not put myself in a box and try to explore more and play around with the elements of the key artwork more.

REFLECTION

Experience
Week 8;This week, I continued to design my poster with my key artwork.Week 9; This week, I started to design the second medium which was the tote bag and also finalise the design and printed out the product.

Observation
Week 8; I observe that sometimes printing out the poster can be different from what is seen on screen. Week 9; This week, I observe that when creating another product/merchandise relating to an event, there should be a variation in design so that it would attract people to buy it.

Findings
Week 8;
I found that sometimes printing out the poster can be different from what is seen on screen. Week9; I found that I need to explore more by rearranging elements and also cropping them or rotating them to create a variation and not put myself in a box.
