LECTURE NOTES

02/10/18 (Week 6)

For this week, we got a lecture on research strategy. There are two types of research method which are quantitative and qualitative. The difference is that quantitative can be measured while qualitative can be subjective.

INSTRUCTIONS

02/10/18 (Week 6)

The task for this week is to start thinking about the research designs.

09/10/18 (Week 7)

This week, Ms Jinchi advised us to continue thinking about our research methods. While coming up with ideas, we should also take into consideration of what are the questions asked, why do I want to conduct such methods, who is going to be involved, how will it be conducted and so on.

After some thinking and planning, I decided to go with qualitative and quantitative methods such as interview, visual analysis and questionaire. I wrote my ideas into a document to show Ms Jinchi in the next class.

16/10/18 (Week 8)

In this class, I got to share with Ms Jinchi what I'm thinking of doing for the data collection methods.

FEEDBACK: For the research method of interview, Ms Jinchi mentioned that I should try to look for more companies and that it isn't a main method instead the questionnaire and visual analysis should be the main focus. Overall, the research methods I want to conduct are relevant and I can proceed with thinking deeper on them and justifying them.

I was not sure on which two to do yet so I drafted the questions. Here are some questions that I came up with for both the email interview and the questionnaire and also the possible elements to analyse for visual analysis.

23/10/18 (Week 9)

This week, I got a one to one consultation with Ms Jinchi. For the email interview she suggested some questions I could ask and suggested that I could broaden my scope. Instead of focusing on brands that produce merchandise that incorporate illustrations, I could look into cafes that use illustrations in their environment that shows their brand identity or just screams their brand. As for the questionnaire, Ms Jinchi said that some of the questions I asked were directed towards the designers rather than the consumers. Lastly, for the visual analysis; she said that it was good but also suggested other elements that I could analyse.

30/10/18 (Week 10)

I worked on my questionnaire and here are the final questions.

Here are the slides for research implementation which consist of the methods that will be used.

Here is the data that I have received so far. In total, I have 53 responses.

6/11/18 (Week 11)

This week was e-learning week as it was a holiday due to the Deepavali celebration. I started to work on my visual analysis for Headspace. Here is the visual analysis.

13/11/18 (Week 12)

FEEDBACK: This week, I got a one to one consultation with Ms Jinchi.I got to show her my visual analysis and received feedback for it.  She told me to analyse the illustrations individually and connect them back to the brand identity like how does it embody the brand identity.

20/11/18 (Week 13)

This week was a public holiday, so we were told to work from home. Here is the updated data that I have received so far for the questionnaire. In total, I have 62 responses.

Here is the visual analysis on Oscar Health ,Headspace and Shopify illustrations.
