LECTURE NOTES
24/09/18 (Week 5)
This week's lecture was done by 3 groups, and my group was one of them. My group's task was to prepare lecture slides regarding the history of typography, from Gutenberg to the present day.
Here are the slides prepared by my group.
With the 3 sets of slides, we needed to compile it to form our own slides.
Here are my slides for this week's lectures.
01/10/18 (Week 6)
This week's lecture was done by 2 groups on Designing Type. Here's my compilation on this week's lecture.
INSTRUCTIONS
24/09/18 (Week 5)
In this week's class, we were given our first project. Typosexual Typographic Exhibition is the title of an exhibition that we are required to work on. With the title, we needed to combine it with visual elements. This combination of image and text will then be a signature artwork. This is quite similar to exercise part 2.
In the initial stages of creating the composition, we should only use black and white so that we'll focus on the form and not be distracted by colours. Then, a maximum of two colours can be used in our designs later on.
01/10/18 (Week 6)
This week, I showed my initial design. I needed to redo as i misunderstood the instructions and learned that a key artwork should be able to stand alone and not be bounded to a corner or edge .Here are my attempts.

FEEDBACK
Week 5
General feedback: When giving presentations, we should stand up and interact with the audience to make sure they understand what is being presented. Group members should also help each other by collaborating. Images should also be used so that the audience can see the information visually.
Week 6
General Feedback: For Project 1, the key artwork should be integrated and be able to stand alone. Do not use boarders or let it be grounded to the sides. Specific feedback: Mr Vinod told me that the photograph I used was good but I need to play around more with the words.
Week 7
General feedback: Our final artwork should be done on Illustrator as it can be scaled. We should also print the key artwork so that we would know how it looks like on print as the outcome is different from what we see on screen.
Specific feedback: Mr Vinod and Mr Shamsul gave me advice on how to further improve my key artwork. Mr Vinod liked my final outcome.
REFLECTION
Experience
Week 5;This week, I attempted to combine an image and text since this first project is similar to our previous exercise.Week 6; I attempted project 1 by trying to combine the word typosexual together with the visual i have taken. Week 7; I finalised the key artwork that will be used in the next project.
Observation
Week 5;While creating the compositions, I observed that this is a little easier to do compared to the previous exercise as we're only using 3 words thus making it easier to compose.Week 6; I observe that it's hard to integrate the text together with the visual and it also requires one to constantly play around with the text and visual until a good composition is made. Week 7; I observed that when placing an element such as a shape into the design, it requires an explanation or justification as to why it is placed there.
Findings
Week 5;I found that it is important for the image and text to have a connection so that they can both flow well.Week 6;I found that a key artwork needs to be able to stand alone without being rooted to a boarder or edge. Week 7; I found it hard to create a poster that would follow the flow of the key artwork, Mr Vinod told us that sometimes we would have to sketch to get fresh ideas after staring at the screen for too long.
