Tracing with the pen tool
26/3/2018 ( Week 1 )
Week 1 , we were given a brief introduction to Illustration and Visual Narrative ( IAVN) by Mr Hafiz. We started off the class with an exercise which was tracing out vormators using the pen tool. I found it quite hard to control at first but soon I started to get the hang of it and was able to trace properly.

We were given this image of vormators to trace out.Below is the final outcome, the shapes weren't very smooth but I did my best. I've redid some shapes many times and this was the best I could do now as a beginner.

Mr Hafiz told us that we could try to come up with some characters using these vormators. So I came up with a few characters at home and here they are. I definitely struggled in creating a character , it took so much time to create these characters as I had hard time imagining them.
Shadows and Colour Swatches
2/4/2018 ( Week 2 )
Week 2 , from our traced shapes, we created a silhouette of our characters . Even though I created some characters, I couldn't use it because I didn't know was that we weren't allowed to distort the shapes so I had to remake a new character for this exercise.

After creating our silhouettes, Mr Hafiz taught us how to add shadows into our characters. There are two ways to it.We could either use divide or the knife tool but he told us that if we wanted to use the knife tool, its best if we do it with a wacom.
Not only that, Mr Hafiz also taught us how to create colour swatches and also how to save them and use it later on as it would be useful for our assignment or any other projects in general.

Adding Texture
9/4/2018 ( Week 3)
Week 4, we added colour and textures to our characters by using the pathfinder. We learned how to unite, divide, group and ungroup which was very useful. Not to mention we also learned how to make a clipping mask in order to add texture to our character. There was a lot of information to swallow that day but I definitely learned a lot.

30/4/2018 ( Week 6)
In today's class, we experimented with creating illustrations of a pear. In google classroom, we were given an image of a pear (chiaroscuro) to trace on illustrator and coming up with our very own versions of the pear with different colour schemes and shadows.

Mr Hafiz gave an activity for us to create a combination of a pear and a skull. We were given a picture of a skull on the google classroom, and we were asked to trace out the shadows and paste it on the pear.

After this exercise, we moved on to a new exercise. A few weeks ago at the photo studio, we took some portrait pictures of ourselves. So based on our chosen photos, we were assigned to trace out the shadows and highlights of our photo and apply a strong contrast to the shadows thus giving it a graphic look. We were also told to try out textures by using the clipping mask technique.

Jumping into our second project, Mr Hafiz gave us this activity to be familiarised with the idea of the different type of transitions in comics. We needed to group a scene based on the type of transitions.
